BROOKSVILLE — Three people were shot to death and another was badly injured while trying to run away from a lone gunman in a local neighborhood Friday night, police said.
Brooksville police identified the shooter as George Mason III, of Lutz. He was injured and taken into custody after a vehicle struck him shortly after the shootings, officials reported.
Just before 9 p.m., police were called to a house at 820 Peach St., which is north of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard in South Brooksville. City police reported finding three people shot to death: Ralph Ray Peyton, 29, and Jannie V. Taylor, 81, were found inside the residence, and Tarasha Yata Townsend, 32, was in the road.
Gabriel Frashawn Taylor, 32, was found a short distance from the house, badly injured with multiple gunshot wounds after apparently running out of the residence and being chased down by Mason, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was still in critical condition as of press time Saturday.
After shooting Gabriel Taylor, Mason was hit by a passing vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, police said. Mason was seriously injured and taken to a hospital. His condition was not available Saturday.
Payton, Jannie Taylor and Gabriel Taylor live at the house, police said. Townsend and Mason reportedly were in a relationship and lived together at 24922 Oakhaven Court in Lutz.
