Tarpon Springs shooting suspect arrested in Brooksville

BROOKSVILLE -

A Tarpon Springs man was arrested this morning in Brooksville following an investigation into a shooting Monday in Pinellas County.

Phillip Stavrakis, 54, was apprehended by Hernando County deputies at the Budget Inn motel, 1795 E. Jefferson St., Brooksville.

Tarpon Springs officers were able to locate Phillip Stavrakis using his cell phone coordinates.

Deputies from Hernando County then responded to the motel and were able to locate Phillip Stavrakis’ silver Cadillac in the parking lot.

Phillip Stavrakis was taken into custody as he exited his motel room, the report said.

The man who was shot Monday has been identified as 53-year-old John Stavrakis, Phillip’s brother.

He is listed in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

The shooting happened Monday evening in Tarpon Springs during a family gathering following the funeral of the two men’s father on Sunday.

The brothers got into altercation where witnesses said Phillip pulled out a gun and shot John multiple times in the abdomen.
