BROOKSVILLE -

A woman teaching a class at the Grace World Outreach Church Thursday said someone took her iPhone 5, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, and she later found it in a toilet in the woman's bathroom.

Surveillance tape identified Moniqua Shannon, 20, as the culprit.

After being taken into custody, Shannon said she took the phone and flushed it so "no one would find it," according to the affidavit. The $400 phone was damaged beyond repair.

Shannon was arrested on charges of grand theft and criminal mischief, and jail records show she is being held on a $2,500 bond.

Jail records also show Shannon was arrested in March 2011 for aggravated battery, and in August 2011 for battery, obstruction of justice and probation violation.
