BROOKSVILLE -

A 58-year-old Brooksville man agreed to a negotiated plea deal Thursday that will send him to prison for 20 years.

Prosecutor Erin Daly said if Raynald Lyon had elected to go to trial, the state was ready to prove that between March 2001 and March 2008, Lyon attempted to commit sexual battery on "B.G.," who would have been aged 5 and 12 during those years, as well as lewd and lascivious exhibition in front of the minor.

Daly said the victims gave "consistent" testimony, and the resolution was "reached to spare the child the agony" of speaking about the ordeals in open court.

Daly said the sentence was below the sentencing guidelines, which could give up to 30 years for each attempted sexual battery charge.

Judge Daniel Merritt Jr. accepted the plea deal, which also stipulates 10 years of sex offender probation upon Lyon's release, and designation as a sexual predator.
