'Gigantic' yard sale set

A "gigantic" yard sale is planned from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and Saturday at Mariner United Methodist Church, 7079 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. There will be bargains on clothing, crafts, household items, toys, jewelry, furniture, tools and more. Food, drinks and baked goods also will be available.

'Judah Ben-Hur'

Youth With a Mission of Tampa Bay and Live Oak Theatre present "Judah Ben-Hur, the Musical," a magical tale of romance, comedy and adventure, at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Faith Evangelical Church, 200 Mt. Fair Ave., Brooksville. Doors open one half-hour earlier for coffee or tea and dessert.

Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for students 13 and under with the purchase of an adult ticket. All proceeds will be used to send the JBH team to the Philippines to help build homes and bring joy through free performances of JBH.

Brooksville Raid

The Hernando Historical Museum Association and North Pinellas County Scout Sertoma Club present the 34th Annual Brooksville Raid Reenactment at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Sandhill Scout Reservation, 11210 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. This year's re-enactment marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War raid that happened in Hernando County in July of l864. Tour authentic Confederate and Union camps and enjoy the Grand Review on Sunday. The event includes battle re-enactments, artillery demonstrations, entertainment, food and vendors. Bring your lawn chair and camera. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for ages 6 to 12 and free for age 5 and under and Scouts in uniform.

Johnny Cash tribute

Step into the "Ring of Fire" as Bill Forness and Brittany Sheffer bring back the sounds of Johnny Cash and June Carter at a Tribute to Johnny Cash, at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hernando Performing Arts Center, 790 Howell Ave., Brooksville.

Gallery hosts art exhibit reception

City Hall Art Gallery is currently showing the exhibit, "When Art Greets the Past," through March 22 at the Gallery located at 201 Howell Ave., Brooksville. There will be a Fall Art Exhibit Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Gallery with a short lecture and a Smithsonian film feature hosted by Virginia Bensen. Annual Basketball Free Throw Contest

St. Frances Cabrini Knights of Columbus Council 13209 presents its "Annual Basketball Free Throw Contest" at 9 a.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Catholic School, 1095 Commercial Way, Spring Hill. This event is open to all boys and girls ages 10 to 14 who will compete in their respective age divisions. Winners will progress through local, district and state competitions. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent.

Dance planned at High Point Community

Elks have country and western dinner dance

The Brooksville Elks invite members and guests to a Country and Western dinner-dance Saturday at the lodge, 14494 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. Cocktail hour is from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by dinner. Music by DC Country and dancing will be from 7 to 11 p.m. The cost for dinner is $15 per person and includes the cover charge. (There is a $5 cover charge for dancing only.) Audubon Society plans Lakeland trail walk

Sportsman's Club has Gun & Knife Show

Hernando Sportsman's Club sponsors its annual winter Gun & Knife Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 25 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 26 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 Broad St. (U.S. 41), Brooksville. The show will feature all types of new, used and antique firearms, knives and related accessories for sale. Admission is $6 for adults, and children 16 and under are admitted free with an adult.
