An open letter to Billy B. Brown, and his WREC board

Mr. Brown, Do you have no decency sir?

Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative (WREC), which serves approximately 201,000 west central Florida customers, has once again implemented a "customer charge" increase. It's become an unwelcome annual event for Billy B. Brown, and his WREC board, who can independently implement increases, absent oversight from the public utility commission (PUC).

The most recent "customer charge" increase of approximately 40 percent is, in my opinion, financially offensive given that in the past five years the monthly "Customer Charge" has increased from $11.50 monthly to the latest $25 dollars monthly. An increase of more than 115 percent.

May I respectfully remind Mr. Brown and his board, a significant number of the WREC customer base are senior citizens living on fixed incomes (social security), averaging approximately $1,200 a month. Their cost of living increase (COLA) for 2014 was 1.5 percent or $18 per month. It will take 40 percent of their COLA to pay for WREC's 2014 $7 per month "customer charge" increase. Mr. Brown, do you and your WREC board have no decency?

I'm wondering what the reaction of Mr. Brown, and his WREC board would be if they were assessed a "customer charge" every time they shopped for groceries, went to the movies, or filled their vehicle with gas. I suspect they would be seeking out other options. The issue here is, 201,000 WREC customers have no viable options that I'm aware of, therefore are at the mercy of Mr. Brown, his WREC board, and their ability to raise rates without public utility commission (PUC) oversight.

With teachers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, retirees, and a host of others getting paltry or no raises, WREC implements a "customer charge" increase of approximately 40 percent that sucks over $1.4 million a month out local main street economies at a most inopportune time.

Mr. Brown, with all do respect, do you have no decency sir?

Democrats turning country into dictatorship

The funeral for the United States was held on Tuesday night Jan. 28. Did you watch? For on that night the president declared he will implement programs and legislative initiatives by going around congress effectively making him dictator.

Horror of horrors is that when he announced his intentions all the democratic congressmen stood up and applauded thereby solidifying those intentions. Obama, with the approval of the Democratic Party, has, in fact, rendered the Congress useless. If he plans to go around Congress, the constitutional check on executive power and the Congress is allowing it, then we, in fact, do not need the Congress and they should be recessed and subsequently fired.

On the one side, if you are an enemy of freedom, that decision can save an enormous amount of money in salaries and perks, eliminate lobbyists, cut down on security forces for congressmen, ease traffic in Washington and put most of the liberal newspapers and TV stations out of business. Also we can turn all the congressional buildings and offices into a multimedia circus showing the rise and fall of a great civilization.

On the other side, if you are a lover of freedom you, the voter, have one last chance to change that outcome. In the upcoming elections vote all the democrats out regardless of who they are. All democratic congress people follow the Democratic Party platform. During the "State of Disunion" speech they, the democrats, tipped their hand regarding what kind of government they want. A dictatorship is fine with them.

I love this country. It is the land of my ancestors and truly once was the land of the free and home of the brave. We are one election away from losing it all. Will you be able to look your grandchildren in the eye and say that in 2014 you helped preserve this beautiful land and stopped a dictator in his tracts or will you look at your children and cry? The choice is yours; choose wisely.
