The issue: Efforts to attract firearms manufacturer to Hernando County.
Our opinion: County administrator's efforts to bring jobs to county deserve praise.
Much deserved kudos to County Administrator Len Sossamon for his aggressive action in trying to bring jobs to Hernando County.
Having heard that a Connecticut firearms manufacturer is looking to relocate its firm to a more business-friendly location, Mr. Sossamon immediately fired off a letter to the company CEO extolling the benefits of moving his company to Hernando County.
The administrator pointed out the area's advantages: our excellent location and with that, of course, goes the proximity of rail, sea and air resources, particularly the Hernando County Airport Industrial Park.
In addition, the State of Florida is gaining a reputation as a business-friendly place, and that is helping to draw more companies and jobs.
This is a good time for a concerted effort by the Hernando County government and the private sector to work together to bring a reputable company that would provide good jobs for our residents.
In the past this was the kind of action that helped to bring some of our biggest employers to the county.
It also may act as a catalyst to lure other similar firms looking to relocate to consider the benefits of moving to Hernando County.
We congratulate Mr. Sossamon on his initiative and action to reach out; not to simply wait for something to happen but to actually try to make it happen.
