Hospice seeks volunteers

BROOKSVILLE HPH Hospice seeks volunteers to help at the Sturgill Hospice Care Center in Brooksville. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available. Two-part orientation will be held May 14 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., attendance for both sessions is mandatory, lunch will be provided. Joint health presentation

SPRING HILL Access Healthcare hosts a lecture “Joints are Holding You Together” today at 5:15 p.m. located at 5350 Spring Hill Drive, with Maria Scuziano-Singh, MD, board certified in internal medicine presenting. Diabetes education

SPRING HILL Access Healthcare hosts an education program focused on diabetes. The next presentation will be held May 16 at 5:30 p.m. on “Diabetic complications, risk and management” located at 4270 Lake in the Woods Drive, with Verna Pedersen Runyan, ARNP-C, CDE. Diabetes screening

SPRING HILL The Florida Department of Health, Hernando County, The YMCA of the Suncoast and Walgreens have partnered to offer a free fasting blood glucose screening event on May 17 from 7 to 11 a.m. located at Walgreens, 4255 Commercial Way. SPRING HILL The Hernando Democratic Club and patients of the clinic hosts a yard sale to benefit the Crescent Community Clinic on May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. located at 5244 Commercial Way. Caregivers to veterans

BROOKSVILLE HPH Hospice offers a support for caregivers to veterans held June 4 from 2 to 3 p.m. located at 12260 Cortez Boulevard. Matt Peters, VSO, from the Department of Veterans Services will discuss service connected disabilities, aid and attendance to veterans, surviving spouses and VA coverage of hospice care. Grief’s journey program

BROOKSVILLE HPH Hospice offers a free bereavement program beginning June 11, meeting every Tuesday for eight consecutive weeks from 6:30 to 8 p.m. located at the Hernando office, 12260 Cortez Boulevard, to assist those who are bereaved due to the death of a loved one. A bereavement counselor will offer assistance in a group setting, to help with the grief process and explore coping strategies. Seating is limited, please call for reservations, (800) 486-8784.

Comfort caregivers

SPRING HILL HPH Hospice offers a Comfort for Caregivers support group for those caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, with a safe retreat with other caregivers in a relaxed and confidential setting. SHINE seeks volunteers

HERNANDO/CITRUS Volunteers are needed for the local SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Program in Hernando and Citrus Counties. Volunteers train to become counselors assisting clients in Medicare, Medicaid, prescription drug assistance, long-term care, supplemental insurance, Medicare fraud, and more.
