April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month as well as National Volunteer Appreciation Month. In recognition of these two important occasions, on April 11, the Fifth Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program hosted its annual volunteer appreciation luncheon and awards ceremony at Wildwood Community Center in Wildwood.

During the event, 125 of its over 600 volunteers, together with area businesses and organizations, were recognized for their outstanding work on behalf of the more than 1,700 abused and neglected children whose cases are involved with our dependency courts.

In Hernando County, Gail Calvi-MacConnell, Dotty Emond, Doug Feldkamp, and Sandy Roth were awarded outstanding volunteer certificates and Cheryl McCormick and the Hernando County Visitation Center were presented Hernando Countyís volunteer and community advocate of the year awards, the programís highest honor.

Voices for Children of North Central Florida, the non-profit supporting children served by the Guardian ad Litem Program was recognized for its fundraising efforts and generous support of the Program. Outstanding voices for children award went to Karen Strouse, board member.
