Machine gun shoot

BROOKSVILLE - The Hernando Sportsman's Club, 16121 Commercial Way, will celebrate Independence Day with a machine gun shoot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Several cars, trucks and assorted targets will be destroyed. Admission is $20 per machine gun shooters, no tracers or incendiary ammo is allowed.

Participants must be at least 18 years old. Spectator admission is $2 and children 15 and under are free with an adult paid admission. Please bring your own eye and ear protection, even if you are a spectator, especially for small children. Food and soft drinks will be available for purchase in the clubhouse for lunch.

Tour de Crank Works

The Tour de Crank Works will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on the roads of northern Brooksville.

Riders will have a choice of two routes. The Crank Works Flat Stage will be an open road with some trails. The distance is 20 miles with a pace of 12 to 15 mph. The Crank Works Mountain Stage is a hilly open road route, with a distance of 52 miles at a pace of 16 to 20 mph. The event is free, but registration is appreciated. Flea market

BROOKSVILLE - The Hernando County Fairgrounds hosts an indoor and outdoor flea market every weekend beginning at 9 a.m. at 6436 Broad St. Call (352) 796-4552.

Airport flea market

BROOKSVILLE/SPRING HILL - The Airport Flea Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, located at 17375 Spring Hill Drive.

One hundred vendors offer everything from housewares, tools, collectibles and cosmetics, to craft items, recreational items and fresh farm goodies. Call (352) 796-0268.


Baby shower

SPRING HILL - The 2013 Worlds Greatest Baby Shower & Toddler Expo will be July 13 at the Hernando County Health Department, 7551 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. The event is geared to expectant mothers and fathers, parents who have recently had a baby and families with children age 3 and under. Vendor slots are still available. Orchestra concert

SPRING HILL - The Hernando Youth Orchestra will be performing a free community concert at noon July 13 at Dayspring Church 6000 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. Hernando Youth Orchestra is a 501(3)(c) charity that provides instructions and instruments plus weekly rehearsals at no charge to any music-reading student between the ages of 3 and 21. HCSO bowling event

SPRING HILL - The 13th Annual Hernando County Sheriff's Office Youth Education Services Bowling Extravaganza is scheduled for July 20. Registration begins at noon and bowling begins at 1 p.m. It is an annual event, hosted at Spring Hill Lanes.

The program is funded through contributions from citizens and businesses.

Charity cruise-in

Monster Transmission's charity cruise in will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Chick-Fil-A, 13143 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. This month's cruise-in benefits the National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI. For more information call (800) 708-0087, ext. 4491.
