BROOKSVILLE - The Jolly Ranchers 4-H Auction to raise funds for a trip to Washington, D.C., will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hernando County Fairgrounds in Brooksville.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature live entertainment from Brian Chytka as well as door prizes, raffles and a silent auction. A steak dinner with green beans, butter potatoes, corn, rolls, salad, dessert and drinks will be served. The cost is $15 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under.
BROOKSVILLE - Opening day for the 2013 annual Quilt Show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hernando Heritage Museum, 601 Museum Court, Brooksville.
All quilts will be on display through July. There will be a "Quilting Bee" from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $12 per person and includes a box lunch and a house tour. At noon, there will be a "Trunk Show" by Brenda Grampsas. At 1 p.m., there will be a lecture on the history of sewing machines by Linda Wade, of Treadle Treasures. Spider web wonders
BROOKSVILLE - The Florida Wildlife Commission will host a "Children in the wild series: Spider web wonders" from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsay Road, Brooksville.

High Point parade
HIGH POINT - The High Point Community invites clubs, organizations and individuals to participate in its annual July 4 Parade.
Registration and lineup are at 8:30 a.m. near the guard house. The parade starts promptly at 9 a.m. There is no entry fee and monetary awards are given to the best decorations in various categories.
Entry forms are available at the guard house entrance to High Point. Refreshments will be available in the Community Center after the traditional flag raising ceremonies by the American Legion Post 186. Awards will be presented at that time. For more information, call Sylvia at 596-6006.
Tour de Crank Works
BROOKSVILLE - The Tour de Crank Works will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 6 on the roads of northern Brooksville.
Riders will have a choice of two routes. The Crank Works Flat Stage will be an open road with some trails. The distance is 20 miles with a pace of 12 to 15 mph. The Crank Works Mountain Stage is a hilly open road route, with a distance of 52 miles at a pace of 16 to 20 mph.
