Antique car show

ODESSA Cook's Antique & Classic Car Museum Tour will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 22 at Component General Inc., 2445 Success Drive, Odessa. Jim Cook will host the third annual family-friendly open house, which benefits the Foundation for Early Learning in Pasco and Hernando Counties Inc., raising awareness about the 501(c)(3) nonprofit group aimed at quality early childhood education. This is no ordinary museum tour or awareness event; although it holds some of America's rarest collectibles, it is 100-percent family friendly and 100-percent free for everyone. Last year, 580 families visited Cook's facility to experience the progress of American culture and hear the history behind automobiles from 1915 to 1986. There also is a collection of antique radios, cameras and other items of interest from throughout the years. Free refreshments popcorn, ice cream, water, soda, cookies and cake will be served.

Cinema for a cause

BROOKSVILLE The Georgia Theatre Company is pleased to announce the 10th Annual Cinema for a Cause (formerly "Film & Food for a Cause") to be held on Sunday at the Beacon Stadium Cinemas 10, 12961 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. One hundred percent of all admission tickets, concession purchases, and extra donation bowl money will be split between the United Way of Hernando County and the Building a Foundation Group. Come to the movies and help support your local charities.

Art gallery open house

BROOKSVILLE The Gallery of the Arts & Antiques, 259 Howell Ave., Brooksville, will have a grand opening porch party starting at 2 p.m. The talents of 28 artists will be on exhibit, as well as a 50-page history of the 102-year-old house. Mermaid Encounter

WEEKI WACHEE Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, 6131 Commercial Way, Weeki Wachee, is offering a "Mermaid Encounter" for children between the ages of 3 and 14. Children will spend 20-minute with one of Weeki Wachee's live mermaids in the "Mermaid Lagoon" at Buccaneer Bay. There will be two sessions on Saturdays and Sundays. The first session starts at 3:30 p.m. and is for children between 3 and 6 years old. The second session starts at 4:30 p.m. and is for children between the ages of 7 and 14. The cost is $75. Flea market at airport

BROOKSVILLE/SPRING HILL - The Airport Flea Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at 17375 Spring Hill Drive. Vendors offer housewares, tools, collectibles and cosmetics, craft items, recreational items and farm-fresh food. Call (352) 796-0268.

Artist reception

BROOKSVILLE The Spring Hill Art League along with Rising Sun Café will hold an artist reception for local artists Carol Dentici, Karen Heilder, Judy Newton and Sonny Vegara. The event is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Rising Sun Café, 10 S. Main St., Brooksville. The reception is free and refreshments will be served. YMCA arts and craft festival

SPRING HILL The Hernando County Family YMCA will host its 5th annual Arts and Crafts Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are available and will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Indoor tables are $45; outdoor spaces are $55, and larger spaces for food vendors are available for a percentage of sales. All proceeds from tables and spaces will be donated to the 2013 Community Support Fund. Elks anniversary celebration

BROOKSVILLE The Brooksville Elks 2582 invites members and guests to their 35th Anniversary Celebration on Sept. 28 at their lodge, 14494 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. Cocktail hour will be 5-6 p.m., followed by dinner and a Mini Phantom of the Opera show at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15.00 per person and the cut off is Sept. 22. National Public Lands Day

WEEKI WACHEE The Friends of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is recruiting volunteers for National Public Lands Day on Sept. 29 at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. Volunteers are needed for invasive plant removal, trail maintenance and general park cleanup. Trail maintenance volunteers need to bring a lopper or pruning saw. Suggested attire for the cleanup includes closed-toe shoes, gloves, a water bottle and sunscreen or insect repellent. For information call (352) 592-5656.

Fall festival

SPRING HILL The Korean War Veterans Legion No. 5053 and Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual Fall Festival on Sept. 29 at VFW Post No. 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive, Spring Hill. The festival will feature a performance by Gypsy Star an American gypsy concert band. Door open at 1:30 p.m. There will be a social hour 2-3 p.m. A buffet-style dinner by John Mason Catering will be served 3-4:15 p.m. The concert will follow 4:30-6 p.m. The cost is $20 per person.
