Dodgeball Challenge

The City of Brooksville Parks & Recreation Department is offering the Dodgeball Challenge, Men’s and Co-ed Division age 16 and older, at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place, Brooksville. Register as a team or as an individual player to be placed on a team. Rosters are limited to a minimum of six players and to a maximum of 10. Philippine friendship

The Hernando County Philippine American Association is hosting a luau in honor of American and Philippine Friendship Day from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Suncoast Dance & Party Center, 13383 County Line Road, Spring Hill. Marti Carroll at VFW

Local singer and songwriter Marti Carroll performs at 7 p.m. Saturday and again on July 26 at VFW Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive in Spring Hill. Carroll plays a variety of music from the 1950s to today. Food will be available.

Men’s Night Out

Terlep Chiropractic plans a large fundraising event, “Men’s Night Out,” from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at its office, 8466 Northcliffe Blvd., Spring Hill. Men can enjoy craft beer, wings, spirits, a gun display and a chance to win a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Library friends have Christmas in July sale

Friends of the Library of Hernando County are holding a Christmas in July Sale all month at the Little Red Schoolhouse Bookstore, 1208 Kenlake Ave., Spring Hill. All proceeds will help fund the Hernando County Public Library System’s summer reading programs. Items for sale include used books, DVDs and CDs. Prices range from 25 cents to $3. Encore Academy at PHSC continues Back to School Boot Camp and Job Seekers workshops for plus-50 students at the Spring Hill campus, 450 Beverly Court, Spring Hill. Each two-hour workshop is $12 unless otherwise stated. All workshops are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Third Beach Bash set for July 19

The Friends of Weeki Wachee State Park present a special evening event for the family, the third Family Beach Bash, from 6 to 9 p.m. on July 19 at Buccaneer Bay, 6131 Commercial Way, Spring Hill. Admission is $5 per person and ages 2 and under are free.

The Beach Bashes feature water fun, hula-hoop contest, spin-it-to-win-it game and food at family-friendly prices. Proceeds benefit park improvements.

Free organic gardening class

The free class, “Organic Fall Vegetable Gardening,” is being offered by UF/IFAS Extension-Hernando County at 10:30 a.m. on July 23 at the Spring Hill Branch Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. UF/IFAS Extension horticulture agent Bill Lester will discuss how to plan and plant a successful vegetable garden using only organic and sustainable principals. Rec department has Belly Dance Class
