The Hernando Symphony Orchestra will present a special concert series featuring music from many Broadway musicals, such as "A Chorus Line," "Miss Saigon," "My Fair Lady" and "Porgy and Bess," tonight through Sunday.
A special featured trombone soloist and a trumpet trio is on tap for these performances.
Trombone soloist, Vone Gonzalez, will perform "Csárdás", a traditional Hungarian folk dance. This song is known for starting off slowly in tempo, but ends in a very fast pace. The vibrant and lively tone has been said to make one want to dance.
"Vone played trombone with us while he was in high school," said Michele DiLuzio, assistant conductor for the Hernando Symphony Orchestra. "It's nice that he was able to come back to solo with us for this series. He is an excellent trombonist."
DiLuzio is also part of the featured trumpet trio, with Mark George and Daniel Mercier, which will play Leroy Anderson's "Bugler's Holiday" at the concert series.
"I am excited to have three trumpets this season. It has been many years since I have had a full section and I am very excited to welcome Daniel Mercier as our third trumpeter," said DiLuzio.
Mercier is a high school student who attends Hudson High School.
"I met Daniel in December when we were both playing trumpet for a Christmas program in Spring Hill," DiLuzio said. "I immediately asked him about joining the symphony. His first series with us was in February."
Mark George and DiLuzio have been playing together in the orchestra for more than six years.
"It has been a pleasure playing with Mark over the years. We complement each other perfectly. Having a full section allows us to finally play Leroy Anderson's "Bugler's Holiday." It is a trumpet trio, which the audience will recognize.
"It is a piece that gives the trumpets a chance to cut loose and have some fun," said DiLuzio.
The Hernando Symphony Orchestra performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd. in Spring Hill.
Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $6 for students in grades K-12.
This is the final concert series of the season at Stage West Community Playhouse for the Hernando Symphony Orchestra until the fall. It is also the final concert series with conductor Wayne Raymond, who is retiring from the orchestra in September. DiLuzio has been named the conductor of the orchestra beginning next season.
An additional outdoor concert will be performed by the Hernando Symphony Orchestra at the Hernando Beach Club on Saturday, April 12, at 7 p.m. The Hernando Beach Club is located at 3145 Flamingo Blvd. in Hernando Beach.
