It's our leaders, not average Americans, who are the problem

Published:

Great letter, Mr. Columbo. I refer to your "You may be part of the Problem." In it you state that "It is you, the apathetic majority of Americans" who are to blame for America's ills. You covered your bases nicely, or so it would seem, to avoid any serious attack.

I am referring to your statements; "we could take our country back from the do nothing politicians we have in office today. As long as you remain silent, these professional politicians will never do the right thing for our country. They are too busy catering to either of those small percentage groups."

You failed to mention leadership, responsibility, ethics, morals, and honor. These are but a few of the basic principles that both parties lack. And I submit to you that it is not entirely the fault of the apathetic American as you would have us believe.

For example, the Republican elite, the leadership at the very top, including Grover Norquist, Karl Rove, and the Koch Brothers etc; snatched defeat from the very jaws of victory during the national elections of 2008 and 2012 because they ignored Republican voters during the primaries.

These greedy robber barons had so little respect for their own constituency and were only concerned with their own self interests. They chose to position their "Manchurian Candidates" to win at any cost and by whatever means necessary; even if it meant hijacking the elections by gerrymandering the primaries.

They knew that bumping up the primaries of several key states, would require the electoral college votes to be awarded in an "all-or-nothing" fashion, thus ensuring that the candidate who won the popular vote got all the votes and didn't have to share them with any of the other candidates, as is the normal practice. This prevented the other Republican candidates from having the chance to get any traction.

It wasn't just Ron Paul supporters that were ticked off, but all of the other candidates including; Michelle Bachman, Herman Cain, Steve Forbes, Newt Gingrich, Sara Palin, Rick Perry, Donald Trump and even Gary Johnson, before he switched over to the Libertarian Party. They were left wondering what sort of "banana republic" the Republican leadership was turning their party into. They wanted McCain during the 2008 race and Romney in 2012.

To what end? Could it be that only those willing to help them gain control/access of, and to plunder, our nation's treasure, will be allowed to rise to high office in America? Why were they so afraid of Ron Paul, Herman Cain or Gary Johnson? Are they too "fiscally conservative" and therefore too great a threat to be trusted as President of the United States? Are they too "honest" to be allowed to get between them and our tax dollars? Hmm, I wonder ...

Until they change their tactics, I, for one, will find it hard to place my trust in them; as does the majority of my fellow Americans. How can they represent the American people if they can't even represent their own constituency or even the core principles they publicly claim to espouse?

I submit to you, that if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck; it is a duck. Therefore, if our leaders act like fascist/commies, sound like fascist/commies, and do the works of a fascist/commie; They are, in fact, fascist/commies!
