County needs to clean up Spring Hill Drive

Don’t you think you should “clean your house” before having company?

The free concert at the Lake House sounded very exciting. But as I listened to the ads on the radio promoting the event on my drive to work along Spring Hill Drive, I thought how disgraceful a sight with the weeds and grass about 2 feet tall and many dead tree limbs scattered about, along with a substantial amount of trash along the two miles to Deltona Blvd.

This is not new, but a constant unpleasant situation. Mowing along this road is very seldom. How inviting to those attending the concert, visiting from other areas? This is only a sample of the roads in Spring Hill and I wonder why this is acceptable.

Where is our road department? Fortunately, the Spring Hill Garden Club maintains the two islands nearest to the entrance and waterfall. Can’t Hernando County do better?

VA problems a prelude to Obamacare issues?

Recently Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) inadvertently gave us a peek into what we can expect with the full implementation of Obamacare. While explaining that the problems with VA medical care are due to insufficient spending (the usual Democrat reason for all failed programs), the senator said, “In an environment where everybody is told, ‘Keep the cost down. Don’t tell me anything costs more.’ it creates a culture out there for people to cook the books.”

Controlling costs has never been the explicit mission of VA health care, but it is the goal of Obamacare. Remember that the Affordable Care Act is supposed to “bend the cost curve down.” The VA is a microcosm of the country at large. If they’ve been neglecting patients in order to control costs, think of the massive malfeasance coming over the horizon when Obamacare attempts to keep expenses down as promised.

Where is response for Marine held in Mexican prison?

There was a time when America would have stood tall and told whatever country, “You have one of our citizens, an American fighting man, a Marine, and you have 24 hours to return him to us or we will send in the rest of the Marines to take him home. If you have a legal problem with him, we will assure you he will appear in your court, but for now, he is coming home within the next 24 hours.”

I kind of think Teddy Roosevelt might be turning over in his grave regarding this incident. And where is President Obama’s voice in all this? Is he afraid of hurting Mexico’s feelings by demanding the release of our countryman? Considering the person being held is a Marine, this is a slap in the face and we are being told America has lost all self respect and is no longer a world leader.

Those responsible for holding this Marine sergeant are laughing themselves silly over this. President Obama can be assured that this will only embolden countries all over the world and as far as these countries are concerned, President Obama can take his “diplomatic options” and stick them where the sun don’t shine.

All speech must be protected

Lately it seems there is a limit to what people are willing to accept when it comes to Freedom of Speech. We seem to be drifting into a politically correct version instead of what many over the years sacrificed to insure we have, especially in the confines of our homes.

To put this in perspective let me ask this question. Would you like a recording device put in you bedroom by a neighbor and then after a period of time make your private conversations with your wife public for everyone to scrutinize? I think we all would have the same answer to that question.

What you say in private must be protected . Do I or most people agree with what Donald Sterling said? No. But where he said it and his right to say it must be protected. We are on a very slippery slope here when we start picking and choosing what is considered to be protected speech. Everyone from the president to Gail King and almost every sports star lined up to condemn a conversation that by rights should have never been made public.

Everybody was so appalled by the context of this statement that they overlooked that there is a given right for Mr. Sterling to say it, especially when it was intended to remain private between two individuals.

Political correctness has seemed to have clouded our view on this subject . We have seemed to overlook that all speech must be protected and must also be colorblind because if we let this go on and restrict this right, are we going to be any better off than those who live under radical Islamic rule?

Bergdahl deserves court-martial

My disgust for the president has reach a new level. His trading five murderous terrorists for a treasonous deserter is reprehensible.

Bowe Bergdahl simply walked away from his post in Afghanistan without so much as a “by your leave” to enlist with the enemy, the Taliban. This is widely known by everyone who was with him at the time. There is incontrovertible testimony to these facts. Yet Obama eschewed the law, which clearly states that the congress must be notified 30 days in advance of such action, but then again, Obama and his regime really don’t care much for laws with which they don’t agree so he went ahead. Why would he do so, you as? Well because he is showing his true colors. He despises the military and everything for which it stands, namely freedom from an oppressive over reaching and over bearing totalitarian government.

My sincerest wish is that the Army, upon Bergdahl’s return to American soil, arrest him and court-martial him for desertion under fire and make him pay the ultimate price for his treachery, which cost numerous lives searching for him and will cost even more with the release of those five savages. And I further hope his parents are regarded as pariah within their communities for raising and yes even supporting him in his decision to betray his brothers in arms and his country.
