Letter to the editor, April 25

Playing hardball

Here’s hoping that Chris Matthews, the host of MSNBC’s “Hardball”, is a subscriber to the Hernando Today, because this letter is directed to him.

In 2008, on the night that Barack Obama was first elected president, Matthews said Obama’s victory “gave me a thrill down my leg.” In checking out some comparisons between one of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln, and Barack Obama, I’m hoping these comparisons give Matthews another thrill.

Lincoln and Obama both came from Illinois. They both served in the Illinois legislature.

They both had very little experience in government before becoming president.

Lincoln rode the train from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. for his Inauguration. Obama rode the train from Philly to DC for his Inauguration.

Lincoln placed his hand on the bible to be sworn in. Obama used the same bible for his swearing in.

Lincoln was a skinny lawyer. Obama is a skinny lawyer. Lincoln was a Republican. Obama is a skinny lawyer. Lincoln was in the U.S. military. Obama is a skinny lawyer.

Lincoln was born in the United States. Obama is a skinny lawyer.

Lincoln believed in everyone carrying their own weight. Obama is a skinny lawyer. Lincoln did not waste taxpayer’s money on personal enjoyments.

Obama is a skinny lawyer. Lincoln was so honest, his nickname was “Honest Abe.”

Obama is a skinny lawyer. Lincoln brought our country together in hard times, and saved the union. Obama is a skinny lawyer.

The comparisons are uncanny! I hope, if this letter is printed, Chris Matthews gets that thrill down his leg again when he reads his copy of the Hernando Today!
