Re: Plastic Guns

Plastic guns are the most recent discovery of sick minds; they are a serious threat to you and your children.

The reason that bad guys and terrorists will love plastic guns is that they cannot be detected and the sole use of a plastic gun is to kill someone.

The proponents of guns claim that putting a metal clip in the gun will give detection. That's a laugh. Resourceful bad guys and terrorists will find a way to remove the metal clip, then what?

The only congressmen opposed to a ban on plastic guns are ones in the pay of the National Rifle Association.

When will Congress wake up to the danger of approving the sale of plastic guns?

Congress should completely ban the manufacture, import and sale of all plastic guns and impose a harsh penalty of 20 years of prison for any violation, and do it now.

Wake up; you may be in the sight of a plastic gun.

Re: Hernando County Firefighters Are Everyday Heroes

I have a lot to be thankful for this Christmas. My house didn't burn down. My neighbor's house didn't burn down either.

My husband and I were enjoying a quiet Christmas when my neighbor began banging furiously on our door. The vacant lot behind our house was burning. The fire looked like it was 20 feet from our back fence and the wind was pushing it toward our house.

My husband and neighbor tried to put out the fire. I called 911. Fire rescue was on the way. The fire swept so close that my husband could feel the intense heat on his face.

But within minutes, the fire trucks screamed in and the firefighters saved us from disaster. I couldn't thank them enough for saving our house. Then a fire broke out in our neighbor's garage. Firefighters charged to the rescue again. They put the second fire out, too. Another house saved.

On Christmas Day, the firefighters could have been home with their families, opening their presents, laughing with their kids, enjoying their Christmas dinner. Instead they were putting out fires, saving our houses, risking their lives. Being our everyday heroes.

I have a lot to be thankful for this Christmas. I am thankful for the Hernando County firefighters. God bless our everyday heroes and keep them safe.

Sincerely,

Janice Craig

A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

We have on our hands a horror story in the guise of a fantasy. The wolf who occupies the White House is ravenous, although he is in the guise of a sheep. Obama preaches liberty and social justice while removing your freedoms and destroying the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

A few of his transgressions should suffice: His insistence on fundamental "change of America" should have been grounds for immediate impeachment insofar as he took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution while implementing complete disregard for those great documents. His usurpation of power not granted to the president by the Constitution from the Congress is an egregious act, although the Congress bears much of the blame in allowing such acts. His unlawful use of executive privilege has virtually made void due process and the rule of law. Scandals such as Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS, the NSA, drones spying on American citizens and too many more to name.

He has directed the Federal Reserve to print zillions of dollars, which ensures future hyperinflation while doing absolutely nothing for the economy except make his supporters on Wall Street millionaires and the rest of us pay almost $4 per gallon for gas. The latest data from the Council on Economics report that (every) $32.12 of federal stimulus results in only $1 of growth. Would you continually invest $32.12 into a business that produced only $1 of return? I don't think so.

Organizations such as the Tea Party and conservative activists were once known as the loyal opposition in America. Now they are classified as subversive. That includes you if you disagree with this administration. So much for free speech. That is why the news media acts as an organ of the government. The administration controls the FCC with an iron hand who in turn controls the media with threats of license revocation if they do not toe the line. So much for a free press. The two-party system, while not ideal, is at least a check on too much power being accumulated in one branch of the government. With the administration stacking the courts and placing Republicans on their hit list, well so much for the two-party systems

Do you see a pattern here? Check your history books. Every nation that has fallen to dictatorship has followed the same path as this government. Hitler, Lenin, etc. reduced the freedoms the people enjoyed, such that they were, and elevated themselves to absolute control. If you don't think it can happen here, you are sadly mistaken. There are three primary rules for controlling the people; 1. Bastardize their currency, done. 2. Take over their health care so you, the government, have control over who lives and who dies, done. 3. Disarm the populace, and this administration is trying every way it can to accomplish that. So far that is the only thing standing in their way of total control.

I could go on citing the numerous injustices perpetrated by this government, but I believe you can fill in the blanks.

We are at a turning point in American history. You must decide if you wish to give up your freedoms and life to the state or return to the principles articulated in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Is bringing up your children to live in a free society where they can excel as far as they can with their God-given abilities reason enough to stop this madness in Washington, D.C., or do you wish to become just a number on a computer list that controls all you think and do? It's your choice. If you decide in favor of the state, you can mark these upcoming elections as the start of when America becomes a dictatorship and not one of the proletariat but of the political elite. Or you can vote for a libertarian, constitutionalist or a man or woman of moral integrity who will faithfully embrace our Constitution verbatim. For this is the only way we the people can gain back our country and its principle of limited government and freedom for all. Choose wisely. May God bless America, again?
