Red-light camera insights
You are not required to pay if you get a "notice of red traffic signal violation." In fact, if you do, you lose your right to appeal. If you wait until you receive a "Uniform Traffic Citation," you can take it to court, and get your case dismissed, because camera evidence is not allowed by the two Hernando County judges who hear red-light camera cases, based on a Fifth Circuit Court Decision.
Florida Law requires a FULL STOP before turning right on red, but a change in July 2013 allows the stop to be after, before or on the stop line. You may then proceed in a "careful and prudent manner". However, a City of Brooksville ordinance does not allow you to exceed 5 mph during the turn, conflicting with state law. Every red light camera jurisdiction chooses different turning speeds, even as high as 25 mph, making compliance with the law very confusing throughout the country. It is better to refuse to turn right on red than risk a ticket, because a 5 mph turn is abnormally slow, and easily exceeded. Also be aware that shortened yellow lights only give you about half the time you need to get stopped if you drive the speed limit, and decelerate at the FDOT formula rate of 10 feet per second. People slamming on their brakes trying to avoid tickets have caused rear-end crashes to rise 700 percent at some intersections, so camera statistics have not proven any safety benefit, but adding a single second to the short yellow times has reduced crashes up to 80 percent. Most red-light running crashes are caused by distracted drivers who didn't see the light at all! If you are a City of Brooksville registered voter, you may go to Osmond Printers at 710 South Main Street in Brooksville to sign a petition to amend the city charter to prohibit automated traffic infraction detectors.
Drug testing for welfare
Drug testing as a requirement for being entitled to welfare is not unreasonable, in spite of what our federal judges say.
Good common sense tells us that if the state of Florida is giving the needy person welfare free of charge, it has a right to set requirements for such benefits, such as the requirement to earn under a certain amount. Likewise, the state should be able to set one more requirement that of drug testing.
The purpose of drug testing is reasonable because it prevents payment of welfare to drug users, who use welfare benefits to pay for their drugs and neglect the support of their families, as well as encouraging crime by these drug users as they try to make up for the money spent on drugs.
The only way to stop these liberal federal judges from unreasonably intruding into our lives is to be rid of them, which will not be easy.
This can be done by an amendment requiring a vote of approval or disapproval - every four years for each federal judge.
Make your disapproval of our federal judges known to your congressmen and hope that they will do something to be rid of liberal ones.
I love my church
That is how the people who go to Cross Point Church feel. I have gone to many churches. I've been an elder in the Presbyterian Church. I'm not a good Christian because I stopped going because my beliefs were different than those of the ministers. Someone suggested I try Cross Point. I did and it is my belief that this is the way God would want us to be. This is a non-denominational church. People of all classes in life, all denominations, and all manners of dress come to hear the word of God. The ministers do not preach, but teach the word of God.
Ten percent of what is taken in at their service is given back to those who need it. This year, the service before Christmas, there were two tables at the back of the church. One was for those needing help and one for those willing to give help to those in need. The church was also giving a good share to those in need.
