Bicyclist who was stuck, killed by car identified

BROOKSVILLE — A bicyclist who was struck by a sport utility vehicle on Friday and died Sunday was identified as Patrick Thomas, 61, of 460 Hale Ave., the Brooksville Police Department said.

Thomas was riding his Schwinn bike west on Cortez Boulevard around 12:40 a.m. Friday when he attempted to cross the road, records said.

According to witnesses, Thomas steered into the path of a 2008 Jeep Wrangler driven by Melissa Pooler, who was not cited in the incident, records show.

Thomas was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Pasco County, but died of his injuries on Sunday, records show.
