BROOKSVILLE - A Brooksville police officer received minor injuries after he was rear-ended last week on East Drive near Oakdale, according to Police Chief George Turner.

Peggy Adderley, of Floral City, was going north on East Drive and dropped her cellphone on the floorboard. In the process of picking it up, she ran into the back of officer Richard Hankins, who was in an unmarked 2013 Dodge Charger.

Neither Adderley nor her passenger were injured, Turner said, but Hankins received minor injuries when his computer became dislodged from its holster during the accident and struck him.

"She was issued a ticket for careless driving," Turner said. "(Hankins) hasn't missed any work."

Total damages to the Brooksville police car was $5,000, Turner said, and damage to Adderley's vehicle was $2,500.

All city policies were adhered to regarding the accident, Turner said.
