A neighborhood dispute turned violent on Sunday when a Brooksville man beat his neighbor while he was washing his car, deputies said.

William Roy Hargis, 41, faces one count of simple battery and was being held at Hernando County Jail on $500 bond.

The neighbor was in his yard washing his car when Hargis pulled up and got out of his vehicle, according to a report from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Hargis called the neighbor several vulger names and hit him at least two times in the head and facial area, the report said.

Hargis then left and the neighbor called authorities, telling them he believed the beating was retaliation for him calling police on Hargis the day before, deputies said.

Deputies found Hargis at his home and he told them his neighbor was antagonizing him by calling him names, deputies said.
