BROOKSVILLE - After a Brooksville man repeatedly grabbed a woman inappropriately on Saturday night, her boyfriend struck him several times in the head and face, and was later found by Brooksville police laying in a yard.

Robert J. Ward, 33, was heavily intoxicated and bleeding from the face in the area of East Fort Dade and Oakland avenues when paramedics arrived, according to a Brooksville police report.

While checking Ward's injuries, he refused to put down a lit cigarette, the report shows.

When the paramedic went to remove the cigarette from Ward's hand, Ward punched the paramedic in the chest.

Ward was arrested on charges of battery on the woman - a second or subsequent offense - as well as battery on a paramedic.

He's being held at the Hernando County Jail on $10,000 bond. Jail records show Ward has been arrested 14 times in Hernando County.

The man who struck Ward, Albert Gardner, 19, was arrested Sunday on charges of battery, and is being held at the Hernando County Jail on $500 bond. Jail records show Gardner has been arrested eight times in Hernando County.
