Brooksville man charged with domestic battery

BROOKSVILLE - A Brooksville man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly hitting his girlfriend of five years twice in the face and once in the torso with a closed fist.

Matthew Eric Hafner, 39, of Fort Dade Avenue, was under the influence of alcohol when the alleged crime occurred, according to an arrest report.

The alleged victim told deputies Hafner hit her after a verbal argument about her arriving late from work, the report shows.

"I did observe a small bump on (the victim's) forehead, along with redness and swelling on her face and an abrasion on her right pinky finger," a deputy wrote.

Hafner was tracked by K9 units in the woods across the street, according to the report, and was then taken to Hernando County Jail.

He was charged with one count of domestic battery, and held on $500 bond until 4 p.m. Wednesday.
