HERNANDO BEACH - A Brooksville man died from his injuries on Monday afternoon after a crash on Calienta Street at Maplewood Drive.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported Christopher Gillen, 25, was driving his motorcycle at a "high rate of speed" when a man driving a Toyota Celica turned left in front of him.

During the crash Gillen, who was not wearing a helmet, also hit a parked pickup truck, troopers said. He was thrown from his bike, which landed on top of the truck. Gillen later died from his injuries at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, troopers said. The driver of the pickup, Harold Toms III, 60, was not injured.
