Corrections officer charged battering wife’s boyfriend in Sam’s, deputies say

A Lake County corrections officer was charged with battery after pushing a shopping cart into the boyfriend of his estranged wife at Sam’s Club in Brooksville, deputies said.

Brian C. Gibbs, 47, of Brooksville, also faces charges of domestic battery after slapping the arm of his soon-to-be ex-wife who tried to intervene, according to an arrest report from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Gibbs was shopping in Sam’s with his girlfriend when he spotted his wife and her boyfriend in the next isle, according to the report. Gibbs confronted the boyfriend and pushed a shopping cart into him, the report said.

When Gibbs’ wife tried to intervene, he slapped her left hand, which was raised to defend herself, deputies said.

Gibbs then pushed the shopping cart into the boyfriend, who was injured on his left hip, which he recently had replaced, the sheriff’s office said.

Gibbs was arrested and taken to the Hernando County Jail. Information about his bond was not released.
