BROOKSVILLE - About 30 men, women and children attended a candlelight vigil, hosted by the Hernando County Domestic Violence Task Force to remember eight individuals in the community who died last year from domestic violence.

October is domestic violence awareness month, and Dawn Center Executive Director Shannon Sokolowski said the community can do their part to remember those who have passed away.

"We honor them by asking not 'why didn't you leave,' but 'what can I do to help," Sokolowski said.

Two women shared their stories of survival, and the vigil ended with a candlelight processional through the aisles of Grace World Outreach Church.
