Deputies: 13-year-old boy tries to stab mother

Published:

SPRING HILL - A 13-year-old boy was arrested Friday after deputies said he tried to stab his mother during a domestic dispute.

Deputies responded to a home at 1174 Newhope Road in Spring Hill after the mother, Diana Sanchez, said her son was in trouble and "getting mouthy."

Sanchez said she popped him in the mouth" and her son got angry, ran into the kitchen and got two kitchen knives.

While doing that, the boy - whose name is being withheld due to his age - told the mother, "I'm done with this. I'm going to stab you."

Sanchez said the boy came at her but her domestic partner, Marilyn Berry (who is also the boy's biological mother) got between them and stopped him, taking the two knives away, a sheriff's report said.

Sanchez told deputies she put the boy in her bedroom and as she was turning to leave, two of the other children yelled at her to warn her the boy had retrieved another knife and was coming toward her. He attempted to jump on her back and stab her, the report said.

Sanchez said the two other children wrestled the knife away, with the boy receiving a cut to his finger during the process.

The boy told deputies he has anger management issues.

The sheriff's report notes that all the family members are in fear of the boy and have placed mirrors throughout the house to help them keep an eye on him so he doesn't jump on their backs. They have also tied pots and pans to their bedroom door handles in fear he might come inside while they are sleeping.

The boy was taken to the jail without incident.
