Deputies: Man didn’t pay cab fare

A Spring Hill man who refused to pay an $18 cab fare later was booked at the Hernando County Jail on charges of petit theft and violation of probation.

According to a Hernando County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit, Timothy R. Carson, 35, took a cab to Karma Spirits and Cafe at 10511 Spring Hill Drive.

Carson refused to pay the $18 fare when he arrived at the bar, deputies said, and told the driver he couldn’t pay because he did not have any cash, only an ATM card, the affidavit says.

Carson, who seemed intoxicated, according to an arriving deputy, was arrested on a charge of petit theft.

A background check later showed Carson has been on probation since 2010 for an unemployment fraud charge. His probation was scheduled to end next year, according to the sheriff’s officials.

Carson was booked on an additional charge of violation of probation, and bail had not been set.
