Deputies: Weeki Wachee man booked on second DUI

SPRING HILL - A 65-year-old Weeki Wachee man was arrested on DUI charges early Thursday morning, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Stephen Pritz observed Ernest Dignall's vehicle swerving between lanes on Commercial Way, nearly hitting the median, the sheriff's office said.

Dignall ignored the deputy's initial traffic stop, according to an arrest affidavit, then "abruptly stopped" in the outside lane near Northcliffe Boulevard.

Dignall, who appeared disoriented, said he "had two rounds at Applebee's" and later said he drank four glasses of white wine that night, the affidavit said.

Dignall stumbled while performing sobriety exercises and later gave up, saying "I can't do this, just do what you have to do."

After being placed under arrest, Dignall yelled profanities on the ride to the jail and had to be forcefully removed from the vehicle by multiple deputies.

His blood alcohol level was measured at .231 and .218. Dignall bonded out for $500 Thursday afternoon.

Court records show the Weeki Wachee man was convicted of DUI in 2009.
