Hernando names its top educator

SPRING HILL - John Imhof, a history teacher at Springstead High School on Saturday was named the school district's 2013-14 "Teacher of the Year."

The announcement was made during a ceremony at Silverthorn Golf and Country Club.

Imhof was selected from among 23 finalists after several days of interviews with a selection committee. The committee is comprised of retired educators and sponsors.

Imhof will represent the district at the state level during this spring's Florida "Teacher of the Year" nomination.

Runners-up for the award included Jennifer Mousel, at Brooksville Elementary; Sherri Raymond, at Chocachatti Elementary; Lisa Hallal, at Central High School; MaryAnn Prescott, at Challenger K8; Joyce Eads, at Deltona Elementary; Susan Whealton, at Parrott Middle; Stephanie Hembd, at Eastside Elementary; Jason Baroudi, at Explorer K8; Calvin Brown, at Endeavor Academy; Caroline Albanese, at Fox Chapel Middle; Caroline McGowan, at J.D. Floyd K8; Arleatha Swackard, at Hernando High; Lorrie Zelakowski, at Moton Elementary; Adanise Cruz, at Nature Coast High; Sarah McKenzie, at Pine Grove Elementary; Joi Ely, at Powell Middle; Ann Connell, at Suncoast Elementary; Jennifer Gompers, at Spring Hill Elementary; Erin Anderson, at Westside Elementary; Alex Rastatter, at West Hernando Middle; Kara Pirolo, at Weeki Wachee High; and Jan Sanderson, at Winding Waters K8.

Last year's winner was Central High School health science teacher, Bethann Brooks.
