Drunken babysitter allegedly passes out

Published:

BROOKSVILLE - A Brooksville woman was arrested Saturday on charges of child neglect and felony probation violation after deputies said she passed out drunk while babysitting a 2-year-old.

Witnesses say Deidre Suzanne Webster, 40, of Freewalt Street, bought a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 and later argued with neighbors until her landlord told her to go back inside, Hernando County sheriff's officials reported.

The child was wearing only a diaper, according to an arrest report.

"The landlord said they went to check on (Webster) and observed her to be passed out and unresponsive on the kitchen floor," an arresting deputy wrote. "(The child) was sitting next to her eating candy that could potentially be a choking hazard."

The child also was surrounded by multiple space heaters, the report states.

Webster was the only adult home at the time, the report states, and was entrusted to care for the child.

Hernando County Fire Rescue took Webster to Brooksville Regional Medical Center.

"She was still too intoxicated to interview and kept passing out and was incoherent," a deputy who tried to interview Webster said.

Webster was being held on $2,000 bail for the child neglect charge, and no bail for felony probation violation. She was on probation for burglary of an unoccupied structure, according to an arrest report.
