SPRING HILL - Charges remain pending in the death of a Spring Hill man and his dogs killed by a car Dec. 5 while crossing U.S. 19 near Applegate Drive.

Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer, Steve Gaskins, said the case remains open with no updated report or additional information to report.

The original fatality report released by Patrol troopers shows at 9:23 p.m. on Dec. 5, a Tarpon Springs man driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata was travelling north in the outside lane on U.S. 19 when he failed to notice John E. Ludwig, 27, crossing the roadway.

The vehicle struck and killed Ludwig.

The accident was not a hit-and-run, and the Tarpon Springs man involved in the wreck provided his name and contact information to law enforcement, according to the report.

Neither Ludwig nor the motorist who hit him were under the influence of alcohol, the report states.

A man who answered previous calls to a number matching that of the Tarpon Springs man declined to comment.

Following Ludwig's death, Ludwig's family expressed hope that any witnesses at the scene, or anyone with additional information regarding Ludwig's death, would come forward and contact the Highway Patrol.
