Florida Forest Service site provides timely information on fires

Published:

BROOKSVILLE – The Florida Forest Service is reminding the public about an online mapping tool that provides information on forest and brush fires.

The mapping system is nothing new, said Public Information Officer Judith Tear.

“We use it in the business,” Tear said. “It’s just a good tool for the public to understand, because it’s up-to-date ... It’s not old data.”

The map is updated as incidents occur, and is available at http://goo.gl/5txz7.

Users should click on “Locations” on the left side of the screen, and select “Withlacoochee Forestry Center” and click “Go to District” to view burns in Hernando County.

Red fire symbols show wildfires, and gray push pins note a planned burn.

More information on the mapping tool and the Florida Forest Service is available online at http://goo.gl/E35iCp.
