Just before 10 a.m. Saturday, downtown streets buzzed with anticipation before the start of the Veterans Appreciation Day parade.
Veterans, civilians and children paid tribute to those who have served the United States. Many participants wore patriotic garb.
Local elected officials and other dignitaries participated in the parade, including U.S. Rep. Richard Nugent. Hernando and Central high school marching bands played, as well as the Young Marines and Junior Navy ROTC.
Veterans rode in cars, tossing candy and beads to children lining the sidewalks.
Brooksville Police Chief George Turner estimated 400 people attended the parade.
Turner said the parade "went very smooth" and was a "perfect day to honor our veterans."
