The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is assisting law enforcement in northern neighboring counties who are looking for a pilot who went missing on Saturday.

Theodore T. Weiss, from Zephyrhills, was last seen taking off from the Dunnellon airport in his single-engine airplane. His last known coordinates were mapped near Trail 10 in the Withlacoochee State Forest in Citrus County.

He was reported missing on Monday when friends found his car parked at the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport, and his plane missing from the hangar.

Public Information Officer Denise Moloney said the sheriff's office sent a helicopter, ATVs, patrol deputies, mounted patrol and canine units to assist in the search on Monday.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, multiple agencies started searching more than 40,000 acres on Monday, and more than 125 reported to the command post Wednesday morning at 4400 S. Lecanto Highway in Lecanto.

Information from TBO.com was used in this report.
