BROOKSVILLE - A Spring Hill man was arrested on an aggravated battery charge Friday afternoon after striking a school crossing guard, Hernando County sheriff's officials reported.
An investigation found Timothy Ruth, 42, was driving faster than 15 mph through a Spring Hill Elementary school zone. Sonny Isabelle, a crossing guard, was helping students and parents cross Mariner Boulevard when he saw Ruth advancing and was able to stop Ruth's vehicle.
After stopping, Ruth got out of his vehicle and struck the crossing guard, yelling expletives at him and threatening to run over him, deputies said. Ruth left the scene, and law enforcement officials later arrested him at his Ellwood Road home.
Jail records show Ruth was arrested on battery charges in 2012. He was being held on $5,000 bail.
