BROOKSVILLE - A 25-year-old Mondon Hill Road man was arrested early Wednesday on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after he allegedly beat his father with a wooden sword.

According to the victim, the argument between him and Giovani Trent turned physical when Trent punched him in the face, then hit him in the head and arm with a "large wooden samurai sword."

Paramedics were called in because the victim was bleeding from both sides of his head, the arrest affidavit shows.

A witness told law enforcement the argument started when the victim heard Trent raise his voice to his grandmother, with regards to paying rent money.

Trent told law enforcement he armed himself with the wooden sword after his father picked up a kitchen knife,

He is being held on $25,000 bond at the Hernando County Jail.

Jail records show Trent was arrested on battery charges in January, but state prosecutors did not file charges against him.
