HCSO: Man swiped sunglasses

Published:

BROOKSVILLE - Duane Johnson, 25, was arrested on retail theft charges on Thursday after allegedly stealing a pair of sunglasses from Walgreens in Brooksville.

According to a sheriff's office arrest affidavit, Johnson was confronted by the store manager and a customer who saw him put a pair of sunglasses in his pocket and leave the store.

After being followed into the parking lot, Johnson got in an SUV and sped away.

A deputy located the vehicle at Holiday Inn Express a short time later, and spotted the sunglasses on the ground close by.

Johnson denied taking the sunglasses, but was taken into custody on charges of shoplifting. He was released on $250 bond early Friday.

In March, Johnson was arrested on charges of battery, obstructing justice, grand theft, battery on a person 65 years or older and criminal mischief.

Court records show Johnson has been found guilty of burglary and trespassing in the past.
