HCSO said felon concealed weapons

Published:

SPRING HILL A convicted felon was found with a semi-automatic pistol and four straight blade knives on Wednesday night, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

In his affidavit, Deputy David Vargas said he approached Ronald Lee Claverie, 58, who was sitting on a bench outside a Chinese restaurant at 4241 Mariner Blvd.

During the “consensual encounter,” Vargas asked Claverie if he had any weapons. Claverie said he did, and produced the knives, adding he did not have a concealed weapons permit.

When a pat-down revealed a .25 caliber handgun with 5 rounds in it, Claverie said “I’m a felon, I’m going to jail.”

Claverie remains in the Hernando County Jail on $14,000 bond. He is set to be arraigned on May 28.

Hernando County court records show Claverie was found guilty of possession of marijuana in 1994, sale of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance in 1998, possession of a firearm by a felon in 2005, as well as multiple misdemeanor, traffic and criminal traffic offenses.

Jail records show Claverie has been booked nearly 30 times since 2010.
