HCSO: Teen booked on burglary charge

Published:

SPRING HILL - Daniel Cooper was booked on burglary charges Thursday night after allegedly breaking into a house he used to live in to take shelter from the rain.

According to a Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit, Cooper and two friends stopped by the house at 8018 Philatelic Dr. in Spring Hill because they had music equipment with them that they needed to get out of the rain.

Cooper later told arriving deputies he didn't have a key to the residence, where he lived until about a year ago and tore open a screen door with his fingers then forced his way in through a pair of French doors.

Cooper told law enforcement he wasn't sure if the home had been sold.

The homeowners told deputies that they bought the home on June 28, and no one should be inside the residence.

The arrest affidavit also indicated Cooper went up to the home's attic without his two friends.

Jail records show Cooper remained in the Hernando County Jail on Friday.

His bond was set at $500.

Court records do not show cooper has been arrested in the past.
