SPRING HILL A Springwood Road woman was booked on charges of child abuse Monday evening after hitting a minor in the face with a telephone.

According to a Hernando County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit, Yulysta Vargas, 31, started yelling at the child because the Internet in their home was not working, and later “slamming” the phone into the minor’s face. A witness said Vargas had been drinking.

Vargas denied hitting the child, who said she hit him many times, though law enforcement did not see any injuries, the affidavit stated.

Public Information Officer Denise Moloney said she could not advise on the relationship between Vargas and the child. Vargas is being held on $100 bond on a charge of child abuse without great harm.

Court and jail records do not show Vargas has been arrested in the past.
