SPRING HILL - A Dade City woman allegedly shoplifting with her toddler in tow was arrested Thursday at a Spring Hill Walmart.

According to an arrest affidavit, Natasha Downs paid for several grocery items before re-entering the Walmart at 1485 Commercial Way. Back inside the store, Downs took a Barbie toy laptop, Hello Kitty tablet case and a toy doctor's kit and put them into her shopping bags.

After walking out of the store, Downs was stopped by loss prevention.

Downs later told a sheriff's deputy "just to give her a court date" because she did not have anyone to take care of her 2-year-old daughter.

Downs, 21, was arrested on charges of retail theft. She remained in the Hernando County Jail on Friday in lieu of $250 bond.

Pasco sheriff records show Downs was arrested on charges of domestic battery in 2011.
