HCSO: Woman throws vodka bottle at deputy

Published:

SPRING HILL - A Brooksville woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after authorities accused her of throwing a vodka bottle at a sheriff's deputy.

According to a Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit, Denise Ruthenberg was causing a disturbance at Creative Poly Designs at 10453 Tillery Road.

The business owner, who is Ruthenberg's father, asked her to leave repeatedly because she was creating a disturbance and yelling at employees.

A deputy who arrived on the scene reported seeing a bottle of vodka in Ruthenberg's purse, and he asked the woman to hand it over.

Instead, Ruthenberg threw it at the deputy, striking his forearm, sheriff's officials said. She continued to push and resist arrest while yelling at the deputy, an arrest report says.

Ruthenberg, 47, was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and disorderly intoxication. She was being held in lieu of $3,500 bail.

Court records show Ruthenberg previously has been convicted of drunken driving.
