HCSO: Woman was growing marijuana

Published:

SPRING HILL - A deputy who was dispatched to a Spring Hill home Saturday looking for a man wanted in Hillsborough County instead found an active grow house, Hernando County sheriff's officials reported.

Markea Hicks, 24, allowed Deputy Brian Schneider to search her India Drive home, according to an arrest affidavit. Hicks said the man they were looking for, Butler Morancy, was not in the residence.

Schneider noticed a "large, black canvas item which could conceal an adult human," his report states.

Inside the bag, Schneider found an "active marijuana grow operation" consisting of two live plants, according to the sheriff's office. Hicks was arrested on charges of cultivation of marijuana and possessing a structure for the sale, manufacture or transfer of a controlled substance. She was released on $10,000 bail Sunday.
