Hernando deputies crack organized tractor theft ring

Published:

A 48-year-old Brooksville man and his 39-year-old wife face grad theft charges after deputies say they were involved in the theft and sale of several tractors.

Darrell Plank was charged with five counts of grand theft, three counts of dealing in stolen property and a count of possession of a vehicle with an altered vin. Dana Plank was charged with dealing in stolen property.

Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a tip in December that a stolen tractor could be found at Star Pawn Shop, 22255 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville.

During the investigation, Plank brought another stolen tractor into the pawn shop, deputies said. Plank was towing the tractor in a vehicle that also was stolen, deputies said.

After searching Plank’s home on Grove Road detectives found evidence linking Dana Plank to the organized theft, according to the sheriff’s office.

Numerous other stolen items were located by working with the numerous other agencies in Florida and Georgia, including the Secret Service.

In all, five tractors, a utility vehicle and a Dodge pickup truck were recovered, according to the sheriff’s office.
