Hernando Sheriff's office looking for emergency response team volunteers

BROOKSVILLE - The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is looking for disaster training volunteers to join the Hernando County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

CERT volunteers train to respond to disaster situation before emergency responders can arrive, according to the sheriff's office, as well as preparing for emergency situations and aiding recovery.

Training classes will be held 6-9 p.m. Wednesday night April 2 through May 14 at the sheriff's office Emergency Operation Center, 18900 Cortez Blvd. in Brooksville.

Volunteers do not need emergency experience, but must be over 18 and pass a background check that includes fingerprinting.

Those interested in the training should call (352) 754-4083. Applications can be found online at www.hernandosheriff.org/em, and should be submitted by March 28.
