Homosassa duo charged with well tank theft, deputies say

Published:

Two people from Homosassa were arrested Friday and charged with trying to steal a well tank from a former local bar, deputies said.

The tank was valued at $500.

Deputies on Friday were dispatched to the Ramble Inn at 18139 Commercial Way, which burned down several years ago.

A witness who was working across the street saw a black Ford Expedition pull up in front of the property and a male and female exit the vehicle. They were later identified as Christopher Sala, 26 and Sabrina Reed, 27.

The witness saw the two lift the roof off the well pump building and go inside, according to a report from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Later, the two were seen removing the tank and putting it in their vehicle and head south on Commercial Way, according to the report.

Deputies stopped the vehicle and saw the large well tank in the rear seat.

Sala told deputies the tank came from the bar’s pump house and admitted it was a mistake, deputies said. He asked deputies if he could talk to the owner to avoid arrest, according to the report.

Deputies talked to Reed, who told them she did not know what Sala was going to do at the Ramble Inn.

Sala and Reed were taken to the Hernando County Jail, charged with one count of grand theft and bond was set at $2,000 each.
