Husband, wife arrested on shoplifting charges

BROOKSVILLE - A husband and wife were arrested on grand theft charges Thursday for two shoplifting incidents, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office reported.

An employee at Kay Jewelers at 7153 Cortez Blvd. said she saw Sabrina Doig, 33, and another man come in and leave abruptly. The employee noticed a Samsung tablet the store uses was missing.

Deputies found Doig in the same shopping plaza with the tablet, an arrest affidavit says. Doig later said she accidentally took the device and wanted to return it, but text messages to her husband indicated she intended to take the device, authorities reported.

Doig was arrested on two counts of grand theft and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. She was being held on $4,000 bail.

Her husband, Kevin Doig, was seen that evening taking a television and headphones out of hhgregg at 13199 Cortez Blvd., the sheriff's office reported. Doig brought the items back to his Grant Street home in Brooksville, where deputies reported finding them in a shed. Doig, who was on felony probation for grand theft charges, was arrested on charges of shoplifting and probation violation. He is being held with no bail.

Jail records show both Doigs have past felony and misdemeanor convictions.
