BROOKSVILLE - A Hernando County Jail inmate died Tuesday at an area hospital, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

William Edward Collins, 64, of El Camino Street in Spring Hill, was arrested Sunday on charges of domestic battery and booked in the detention center just past midnight on Monday.

Collins was moved to the medical building Tuesday due to profuse sweating and paleness. He was taken to a local hospital after passing out while talking to jail staff and taken into immediate surgery upon arrival.

Collins was pronounced dead at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday, with the initial cause of death listed as a "ruptured abdominal aortic aneurism." An autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner, according to a press release.

Collins' family was alerted when he was transported to the hospital, and detectives notified his next of kin.
